Native to America Sand Bar Willow is commonly found along the river banks. And, like their cousins, Willow, they have serious life messages. If one should find themselves in the presence of Willow, it means a life change has begun, or death of a life or way. They are always found near water, another sign of change, mystery, and growth. They shower the earth with a blanket of white seeds, like winter snow. Winter is a time for planning your next year, like a baby in the womb, thus this is a warning that plans should be made for change and growth. Native Americans would cut the tops of Willows (the Tree form), but the tree would not only re-grow their tops, they would get hundreds of straight shoots coming from the cut area. This type of cutting is called "POLLARDED". With Sand Bar Willow, they were also cut for spears, huts and baskets, but they could be cut down to their roots; unlike their bigger cousin, who could only have their tops cut. When Sand Bar Willow is cut to the root it re-grows hundreds of straight branches. This is called "COPPICED" |
