The seed packs grow in enormous clusters (pictured above) in August, then they dry (left picture) and blow away.

Native to America

Facts: The American Elm tree has alternating branches as well as alternating leaves.  As you can see in the pictures above the elm has two barks.  Its trunk has a rough gray bark and the thick upper branches has a smoother bark with reddish bumps on it.  Its seeds are oval in shape and can be seen littering the grown in spring.
